What can I put down to keep my cat from using the bathroom in the landscaping?

April 12th, 2008 by admin

Michelle T asked:

I have small gravel in the landscaping in front of my house. My outdoor cats use the gravel for their litterbox. I have tried pepper, ammonia, Listerine, and moth balls. Nothing so far has worked to keep them away. I have put out litter boxes so they can use them, and they do, but they keep coming back to the gravel.

I am open to suggestions, as long as it is safe for the animals.

A litterbox in the house, and keep the cat inside. Seriously, they’re okay inside and won’t bring in fleas or squirrels.

try planting lemon grass or mosquito plants. the mosquito plant is citronella based, and cats do not seem to like it. My mom put down some cut lemon grass, and the cats and the squirrels both stayed out. Planted will work better.

Shot gun. Point it at the cats crapping in your landscaping and pull the trigger.
